Before you ask
Questions about the claims summary.
- How many years of claims history do underwriters want?
- Five years is the usual ask for commercial covers. Some classes such as professional indemnity or liability with long tails may ask for more. The template defaults to five and you can add years.
- What is the difference between paid, outstanding and incurred?
- Paid is what the insurer has already paid. Outstanding is the reserve still set aside for open claims. Incurred is the two added together and is the figure underwriters usually rate on.
- Should I show years with no claims?
- Yes. A nil year is good news for the client. Leaving it out makes the underwriter wonder if it is missing.
- Does a claims summary replace the insurer's loss run?
- No. It summarises it for the client and for markets. Attach the insurer's own claims report where you have one and say so in the source and as at date section.
- Does it draw the charts for me?
- Yes. The report draws its own charts from the figures you enter in the wizard, so there's nothing to build in a spreadsheet and nothing to paste in. They print in the PDF next to the tables they come from. Word can't do that on its own.
- Can I add my own logo?
- Yes, for free. Upload a PNG, JPG or WebP and it goes on the cover and every page of the PDF. Your colours, fonts and licence details come with the 14-day free trial.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. Fill it in, add your own logo, edit it and download the PDF without an account. The charts are drawn for you and you can email the PDF to yourself. The free PDF carries a small Prepared with Coverbound footer. A 14-day free trial removes the footer, adds your colours, fonts and AFSL details and lets you save the document for next year. No card needed.
- Who is responsible for the advice in the document?
- These templates are a starting point, not legal or compliance advice. You remain responsible for the advice and documents you give under your AFSL or as an authorised representative. Check each document against your licensee's requirements before you send it.
