What it asks

The questions underwriters ask, in plain English.

Each one comes with a line saying why it's asked, so your client answers fully the first time.

  1. 1Which services does the firm provide? Tick all that apply. Each service carries a different risk. Financial, M&A and technology advice cost the most to insure.
  2. 2What were the firm's gross fees for the last completed financial year?Fee income is the main measure insurers use to price professional indemnity.
  3. 3Do your consultants make day-to-day management decisions for clients without referring them to the client?Making decisions, rather than recommending them, makes the firm answerable for the outcome.
  4. 4Does the firm work for clients in nuclear, chemical, aviation or power generation, other safety-critical operations, or financial trading platforms?A mistake in a safety-critical or trading setting can cause very large losses.
  5. 5Do they promise no more than reasonable care and skill (no guarantee of results)?Promising a result, rather than care and skill, takes on liability most policies do not cover.
  6. 6Does the firm ever sign hold harmless agreements, or give up its right to recover losses from subcontractors or others?Giving up those rights can stop your insurer recovering a claim from the party at fault.
  7. 7Is anyone in the firm aware of a mistake, complaint or situation that could lead to a claim?Anything known before cover starts is excluded unless declared now.

Minimum cover

What sets the limit

We know of no regulator that sets a minimum professional indemnity limit for management consultants in the UK. Check any licence or membership the business holds.

Client contracts and tenders
The limit is usually set by client contracts, framework agreements and public sector tenders.

A summary, not advice. Check each client contract for the limit it asks for before choosing one.

Before you ask

Questions about the management consultants fact finder.

Is the management consultants' fact find really free?
Yes. Answer it on the page as your client would, and download it as a fillable PDF with your logo, with no login and no email. Sending it to a client as a link comes with a free 14-day trial.
How does it fill the insurers' forms?
Each question is linked to the same question on the management consultants' forms in the Coverbound Form Library. Starting an insurer's form puts your client's answers in, and they confirm them instead of typing them again. The rest of each form, mostly tables of names, contracts and past claims, they answer there.
Which insurers' forms does it fill?
Business and management consultants' and specialist consultants' professional indemnity forms from Tokio Marine HCC and Arch. The page shows how much of each one it fills.
Can my client fill in the PDF instead of answering online?
Yes. It's a real fillable PDF they can type into in any PDF reader. When they send it back, upload it to your account and the answers are read straight in.
Does it help with the demands and needs statement?
Yes. ICOBS 5.2 asks you to set out a customer's demands and needs from information they gave you. Once your client has answered, Coverbound drafts the statement from their answers for you to finish. It recommends nothing: that part is yours.

Ask once. Fill every form.
