What it asks
The questions underwriters ask, in plain English.
Each one comes with a line saying why it's asked, so your client answers fully the first time.
- 1Is the provider registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, or applying to be?Registered providers are audited, which insurers take into account.
- 2Care for clients who need ventilation, a tracheostomy, PEG feeding, catheter care or bowel care?Complex health care is where malpractice claims come from.
- 3Permanent accommodation or shared housing for adults (18 or over) with disability?Insurers price round-the-clock housing very differently from visiting care.
- 4Which allied health or therapy services do you provide? Tick all that apply.Therapy brings professional indemnity risk, so insurers ask which kinds.
- 5Does every client have a written, signed care plan setting out the agreed services?A signed plan shows what was agreed, which is the first thing looked at in a claim.
- 6Does the provider give psychotropic medication or use any other form of restraint?Restraint is closely regulated and a frequent source of claims.

Minimum cover
Insurance for registered NDIS providers
The NDIS Commission checks insurance when it audits a registered provider. It sets no dollar figure: the cover must suit what the provider does.
- NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission
- Providers audited under the verification module must show a current certificate of currency for public liability, professional indemnity and personal accident or workers compensation insurance, each at a level that suits the scope of the provider.
- Funding agreements and contracts
- State funding agreements, support coordination contracts and leases often name a public liability limit. Check each one.
A summary, not advice. The Commission tells providers to get professional advice on the type and amount of cover they need.

- Is the disability care fact finder really free?

- Which insurers' forms does it fill?
- Disability and community care forms from CFC (NDIS disability services providers), Pen (home and community care combined liability) and Ansvar (disability care and community service organisations packages). It also fills the general public liability, property, cyber and management liability forms, from insurers including CFC, Chubb, DUAL and Pen. The page shows how much of each one it fills.
- Is there a minimum limit for NDIS providers?
- The NDIS Commission sets no dollar figure. Providers audited under the verification module must show current certificates for public liability, professional indemnity and personal accident or workers compensation, at a level that suits what they do. Funding agreements and leases often name a public liability limit.
- Does it work for providers who aren't registered with the NDIS?
- Yes. It asks whether the provider is registered or applying to be. Unregistered NDIS providers and home and community care providers answer the same questions.
